LETTERMEN CONCERT A HIT WITH ATTENDEES
The 1,500 or so concertgoers who attended one of two April 2 performances by The Lettermen left Curtis Peterson Auditorium with big smiles ... and many of them with autographs, too. Comments ran along the lines of, "They are really dynamic entertainers," and "What fun, the way they interacted with the audience," and "Boy, for older guys, they sure are hot." (This from a younger audience member.)
The Lettermen, led by group founding member Tony Buttala with long-time member Donovan Tea and returning member Mark Preston, wowed the audiences with old favorites, original songs, covers of more modern tunes and lively repartee with each other and audience members. Their "interaction factor" was a hit, as they roamed throughout the auditorium shaking hands during some songs, welcomed audience members to the stage for photos with the group during another song, and spent a lot of time in the lobby after the performance giving autographs, laughing, talking with and hugging fans. One woman brought her original Lettermen album to be signed.
The Lettermen transformed themselves into "The Americans" to back special guest Jay Traynor for some Jay and The Americans tunes, also.
The concerts, along with the Classic Car and Corvette Show going on outdoors on the grounds, were part of Citrus Memorial Health System's 2nd Annual Salute to Our Community. Proceeds benefit the Citrus Memorial Health Foundation's capital campaign and the planned Family Care Health and Education Center. CMH thanks all its sponsors and friends for making this event possible. For information contact Development Director Chris Pool at 344-6560.
